GFW – De Montfort

Sakira Pancholi’s collection of distressed and be-tassled rainbow knitwear heralded the start of a show best described as the aftermath of rave in a haberdashery. Her eclectic handycraft trims were attached to basic Aran sweaters, elevating simple jumpers to the realm of the crazily creative.

After the rainbow came the sunset prints of Rianne Brown, her dresses faded from inky night down to pale orange at the hem. Asymmetric shapes, draping and sheer panels gave a soft silhouette that was accented by heavier uses of gathered navy.

The bold colours returned with Amanda Brown. Her multi-coloured doily tops were worn with yellow skirts and pink trousers.

Becky Burton veiled multitudes of gold sequins beneath sheer chiffon layers . A gold column dress was was partially covered by a red longline blouse and neutral tones were used to balance the orange, red and gold.

Tropical bird eyes peered out from the long dresses and cropped t-shirts of Shivani Chavda’s collection, whilst Katie Williams went for bold and simple primary coloured stripes. Her vivid, slouchy knitwear was paired with colourful chiffon.

Rose Cherrington had clearly been inspired by the urban environment with grass green, grey and blue running through the collection. There was a striking photo print t-shirt showing a non-descript grey building, it was paired with a grey long skirt covered in a large-scale and ornate blue pattern – a pleasing juxtaposition.

The show was closed by Emily Andrews with her naughty comment on girliness. Pastels, trims and tulle were used to unnerving excess. Attention was drawn to breasts through the use of whimsical decorations. A subtler streak was apparent in her simple fuchsia shift with pink pleats falling from a star placed at the bustline.
