London Overtakes New York as Fashion Capital

In a recent survey carried out by an internet tracking company, Global Language Monitor, London has now surpassed New York as the fashion capital of the world. This is something that us Londoners have known for ages and now there are the results to prove it!

The media analytical company compiled rankings of 50 cities using tracking technology to analyse the internet, blogosphere, 75,000 print and electronic publications and social media sources such as Twitter. Whilst New York has been top for the past six out of seven years, research shows that fashion and media stars such as Kate Middleton and the late Alexander McQueen have taken London out of third place into first.

London is renowned for showcasing British designers such as Burberry, Stella McCartney and Vivien Westwood and for creating famous fashion icons such as Kate Moss. However, London is also claiming the crown for introducing new designers to the fashion world. One such event that is well known for promoting new talent is PROFILE.

Profile is an event by Fashion Capital in 2001 and is taking place this year on November 10th at the prestigious One Marylebone. It will feature 22 new and exciting talents, who are looking to make their mark on the fashion industry and London is an amazing base to do that from!

Profile promotes 100s of designers to press, buyers, stylists and the generic fashion industry working closely with a host of retailers and retailers such as Debenhams, Topshop, Hobbs, asos.com and House of Fraser. Debenhams have also hooked up with Fashion Capital to host a fabulous competition looking for two menswear designers to design an 8 piece collection that will be sold in two of their stores.

This year Profile has a unique element…Lauren Goodger, star of the ITV show The Only Way is Essex, is launching her own clothing line. This is set to bring further media interest, promoting new designers even more. It is events like this that truly do make London the cream of the crop…where-else in the fashion industry could you find so many new names that are among so many of the greats!
