Mercedes Benz Fashion Week – New York – Highlights

FashionCapital have sifted through the shows to bring you the fashion highlights from NYC!

Marc Jacobs

Avoiding Disney style clichés, Marc Jacobs created a twisted, dark fairy tale themed show with a fantastical set designed by artists Rachel Feinstein.

The AW12/13 collection included the suspected winter colours including mustard, purple and other muted tones with flashes of jewel. Interesting embossed fabrics were layered under coats and capes, finished off with kooky, unstable looking fluffy top hats (By Steven Jones).

Adding flashes of interest were neon opalescent panels and textured fabrics which livened up the granny chic outwear. Odd silhouettes were created through structured jackets, skirts and dresses adding to the surreal fairy tale feel.

Colours became more prevalent towards the end of the show with a princess dress being seen in all over pink sequins – every Disney girl’s dream!

Zac Posen

Posen’s collection – focussed around Japan- featured beautiful prints and sharp, almost folded lines and was the definition of chic. Managing to feature flashes of fiery red and royal blue without becoming garish the evening wear collection oozed luxury. Starting with fitted suit dresses and twin sets with angular, geometric necklines and structured shoulders. Colours ranged through muted jewel green, charcoal, black, red blue and deep purple and evolved to gold, nude and whites towards the end. The final pieces were beautiful elegant floor length gowns featuring sweeping fishtail trains, printed cropped jackets and impressive structured bustiers. Another stunning, sophisticated collection from Zac Posen.

Jenny Packham

Opening with a lady like, yet edgy show of red, tan and black the beautifully draped ladies wear cinched waists, clashes prints and added a bad girl touch. Deep V necklines, embellished with crystals and framed by wide waist bands against the models dark, sexy lipstick were softened by long, fitted trousers and skirts. Draped twisted fabrics flowed from frames in fishtail skirts and wide legged tailored trousers and jumpsuits. Embellishment continued in full dresses, cute collars and shoulder details before flowing into beautiful, gliding evening gowns with oversized flower appliqué and yet more embellishment! Another gorgeous collection mixing sexy, bad girl embellishment with sophisticated style.
