The choice to award Nicholas was based on his and business partner Christopher Suarez’s professional 3 year plan and presentation at interview. The accessories line was individual and modern and recognisable. The Judges were impressed with the business growth strategy and the key challenges he would like to address with the support of the Fund and its advisor’s.
The fund was Launched by the British Fashion Council Chairman Harold Tillman in September 2008 as a Legacy project for the BFC’s 25th anniversary celebrations. The brands supporting The Fund are Burberry, Debenhams, Harrods, Marks and Spencer’s, Topshop, Paul Smith, Vogue, Lf Europe and Clothing at Tesco.
Nicholas had hard competition to beat. The designers short-listed included Mary Katrantzou, Emilia Wickstead, Roksand Ilincic and Peter Pilotto, who have all already made slight names for themselves in the Fashion world.
