Margaret Thatcher’s Iconic Style

10-04-2013

As the first female Prime minister Margaret Thatcher was not just an icon of politics, but of fashion as well.

Margaret served her term during the 80s, which is well known for being the decade that left its mark in fashion, many styles making a reappearance in our clothes today. She really became a representative of proper attire for a woman in power.

Well known for her pussy bows, Margaret was never seen without a power-dressing suit or pearls.

Representing her company, she always had to keep up a well-dress appearance to truly represent her country, described by herself as ‘never flashy, just appropriate’

Baroness Thatcher admitted that what she wore ‘became part of the job’.

To complete her style many factors contributed:

Firstly her hair, she had a style which represented who she was; firm and strong. Her hairstyle remained the same throughout her term.

Next, are her treasured pearls. From her photo archives it seems Thatcher was a fan of her most valued possession from the 50s, and seems to have kept them a key piece in her style since.

Now, her blue power suits. From her first day of being Prime Minister of England she wore her parties colour of blue, head to toe, with pride her allegiance with the colour remained until she resigned.

Her pussy bows were a finishing look to her iconic look. A woman of politics, her wardrobe featured a fair few amounts of sharp blazers and suits, to add a feminine touch she would always add a pussy bow to lighten things up.
