Swimwear Season is Upon Us
29-05-2013
There’s a moment in May, when all your excitement for the coming summer months suddenly turns into fear. Your heart sinks and you know; it’s almost swimwear season.
All of a sudden your thoughts dart back to all those empty promises you made after Christmas. Perhaps it was the gym membership that you cancelled a month in, or the fact that you finished off two cheesecakes over the Bank holiday. And whilst we may spend most of the year talking about it and longing for those poolside days, when it’s actually here, how come we feel so unprepared?
There is, of course, one way to beat that sinking feeling. Invest in perfect new season swimwear to suit your shape and figure, and this summer, the focus is on vintage inspired pieces, cut away one suits, modern prints and mix and matched bikini’s.
Channel screen sirens like Marilyn Monroe in a vintage inspired swimsuit. This style is particularly popular if you are looking to cover up any problem areas. Invest in a boy-leg one piece to give you enough coverage; this Resort Swim Playsuit from Very (£27) will put you in the summer mood.
The one piece has also been given a modern twist, courtesy of Mara Hoffman’s SS13 show, with cut out details becoming a must-have, revealing the perfect amount of skin. This blue One Piece with Pink Flamingo detailing, also from Very (£20), is the perfect way to dive into this trend. Alternatively, if you’re not quite ready to show too much just yet, opt for a digital printed style, popularised by Australian brand We Are Handsome. Topshop have perfected their own High Street versions, like this Map Printed One Piece (£34).
If you’d like to show a bit more off, choose a high-waisted two-piece, as the high cut will flatten your stomach and streamline your shape. This Topshop Slinky Cage Bikini (£32) will bring you up to speed.
If your loyalty lies with the bikini, it’s all about mix and matching with clashing prints and colours. Go for a bold pattern up top and keep it simple down below with block colours. ASOS have a huge selection of separates on site. This on-trend Tropicana print Pineapple Bandeau (£16) is perfectly mismatched with these Brazilian Briefs (£6).
Don’t forget to cover up with a Floppy Hat from Boohoo (£10), slip into a pair of the season’s must-have Flatforms from ASOS (£25), and shrug on a Missoni-esque Summer kimono (£36) from Topshop.
