Rihanna’s Second Collection For River Island

Rihanna’s debut collection for River Island was such a success that she has been brought back for a second.

This week the Rude Boy singer unveiled a sneak peak of her second collection. Rihanna and her co-designer Adam Selman released a behind the scenes video showing that the second collection is going to be a lot more ambitious than the first.

Adam commented on differences of the two collection, stating: “The first collection was a lot purer, about finding pieces that Rihanna felt were missing from her closet. I can’t give too much away, but we travel so much and experience so much of the world, that definitely inspired us.”

Unlike other celebrity designers, Rihanna is very much involved in the designing process of her range for the British retailer. Both her and Adam Selman are constantly in contact with each-other to give joint input on their latests ideas and inspiration. The video shows what a great vibe the two designers have together and the amount of input that goes into the designs, shown clearly through the well-constructed pieces.

The second collection, which is set for release next Autumn is going to be a challenge for both designers. The collection, which will be an A/W range will put both designers to the test, taking them out of their normal which is the sunny climates of Barbados and Texas and having to adapt the garments to suit the English weather.

Rihanna, who, impressively debuted her collection at London Fashion Week, is confident in that she knows what she’s doing, keeping as cool and laid back as ever the star looked at ease throughout the sneak-peak video.

Although she has faced fashion criticism in the past, turning up fashionably late and kept guests waiting an extra hour for her 9 minute catwalk show.

As well as her first collection being branded as “unoriginal” and “nothing special” by some, there’s no denying the starlet’s collection was a huge hit.

Some pieces selling out within hours, and appearing online for more than triple their retail price…

Although not much has been given away and we’re sure were in for some surprises, Selman has revealed we can expect a few party dresses from Rihanna, as well as coats and sweatshirts. Expect the rest to be summer pieces that are perfect for layering in the winter seasons.

The second range will be in stores for September 12^th so set your calenders.
