Trend: The Camo

24-07-2013

The best and most exciting trends are those that just so happen to turn all the fashion norms on their heads; don’t wear navy with black, don’t wear sequins before sundown and don’t clash your prints. Rules that have not only been broken, but have triumphed and become wardrobe must-do’s. Next season is asking you to do just that, the challenge? Camouflage. What was once seen as a print to help you blend in, come A/W 13 it will be harnessed to help you stand out, with larger than life prints in digital and traditional camouflage, as well as alternative shades, heralded by 3.1 Phillip Lim, Michael Kors and Christopher Kane.

To help ensure you are thinking more urban jungle and less army training ground, Michael Kors opted for striking electric blues and browns to help compliment traditional greens. The new shades are contrasted against the greys and blacks of the print, with fur coats, matching suits and skirts, an ode to the New York City girl. While across the pond, Christopher Kane preferred to pair the print with elements of grunge, showcasing big fur collars, kilts and mini skirts.

Best carried off in the cooler months, with layering and moody hues really setting it off, adding chunky knits, fur and elements of leather will ensure you are on the right track. If you’re not ready to go completely in for combat, then instead invest in a bag that, as 3.1 Phillip Lim proved, can add the perfect amount of edge to any outfit, turning you from stand-by to stand-out.
