Giles Deacon at The William Morris Gallery

The exhibition unravels the creation of a dress from Deacon’s A/W 2012 collection that was inspired by an imaginary tale of a stately home ablaze one cold winter’s night.

The exhibition will run from Saturday 12 October – Sunday 15 December 2013 and follows the creative journey from first concepts & designs, through to the choice of the materials and process of making the items to the final presentation. It reveals the craftsmanship in the British fashion industry and examines Giles’ source of inspiration. 

The event is accompanied by a series of workshops and includes:

– A conversation with Giles Deacon: Hosted by Colin McDowell the special ‘audience with’ event will take place on Thursday 24 October at 7.30pm and tickets are £12. Booking in advance is advised as places are limited.

– William Morris Gallery Lates: adults and fashionistas can unleash their inner fashion designer with free craft activities and expert tutorials from the East London Craft Guerrilla, whilst enjoying stylish tunes. The session is free and no booking is necessary. The event takes place on Thursday 7 November 2013 , 6.30pm-10.30pm

– Fashion Design Workshop: William Morris Gallery will be running a GCSE/A level/BTEC Level 2 fashion design workshop. The course will give participants the opportunity to craft ideas and construct a ‘Giles Deacon’ style collar. Participants will be able to showcase their final work at an exclusive evening catwalk event at the William Morris Gallery in March 2014.
