Access All Areas – Fashion Revolution Day
21-04-2014
On 24th April last year, 1,133 people were killed and over 2,500 were injured when the Rana Plaza factory complex collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Images of bodies lying in the rubble with production machinery and brand labels we all know and wear in the UK made for a shocking wake-up call. Social and environmental catastrophes in our fashion supply chains continue and yet it doesn’t have to be this way.
Fashion Revolution Day on the 24th April says enough is enough and Fashion Enter / FashionCapital have joined them with our staunch support for the ‘Made in Britain’ campaign and transparent and ethcial working practices. On the 24th April the Fashion Enter Factory in North London will open its doors and show a factory environment that successfully combines business with ethical working conditions for the benefit of all.
Jenny Holloway Director Fashion Enter www.fashion-enter.com comments:
“Everyone was touched by the tragedy of the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh. However was it really that much of a surprise? When garments are retailing for around £5 and these garments are being flown in or shipped in it’s logical to realise that short cuts in manufacturing are going to take place. All the best audits in the world can’t show 100% transparency and this is why we are supporting the Fashion Revolution Day. It’s time to stop thinking of cheap throwaway fashion and let’s start having a conscience.
“I am an ex-Senior Buyer from the Arcadia Group and M&S selector. We are now running a North London based factory for the M&S Best of British range in London and our main client is asos.com. We are a social enterprise and we care about our working conditions for our fabulous machinists and that’s why we are opening the doors on 24th April for all to see how compliant factories work.”
Please come along to see our factory in operation on Thursday 24th April 8am – 5pm
