Olivier Theyskens Parts Ways with Theory
The Belgian-born designer, who joined the label in 2010 following his departure at Nina Ricci, designed a capsule collection designed under the name Theyskens’ Theory for Theory for almost 4 years. His first collection for the brand was a huge hit, minimal colours and tailored silhouettes were met with praise by fashion critics. Theyskens, following his artistic director role at Nina Ricci previously, became considered one of Europe’s most promising designers.
Last season however, Theory announced plans to combine all collections in one, under the brands name, Theory. Theory by Olivier Theyskens debuted at NYFW AW14, and is reported to have suffered low sales than the rest of the Theory line, due to higher prices than the other collections.
Theyskens final collection for Theory will be the lines pre-spring 2015, which is yet to be revealed. The in-house design team will then take over.
CEO of Theory, Andrew Rosen commented on Theyskens departure, saying, “I am grateful for Olivier’s extraordinary contribution to Theory over the past three and a half years, and I am particularly excited to see what he does next. While he has already accomplished so much, I am confident in the power of his artistic skill and believe his future will be very bright,”
