Victoria Beckham Hosts Clothing Sale For Charity

08-08-2014

Teaming up with Mothers 2Mothers, a charity that trains, employs and empowers women in Africa, living with HIV. Beckham chose the charity after a visit to South Africa in February with Anna Wintour. It was during her trip that she met with Mitch Besser, found of mothers2mothers and a number of the charities Mentor Mothers, who Victoria commented are some of the “most remarkable women I have ever met.”

It was upon her return that Victoria began wondering what it was she could do to help; it was then that she had the idea to auction of her barely worn clothing, donating all proceeds to the organisation. The funds raised will help mentors of the mother2mothers’ Mentor Mothers in reaching even more of those affected by HIV, supplying them with the needed education and support in helping them stay healthy and protect their babies and children from infection.  For every 10GBP raised, this could help with providing accommodation and transport for a mentor of the mothers2mothers community during their training course. Every 100GBP raised will provide a mobile phone for a community mentor mother and every 1000GBP could help in employing a mentor mother for a whole year.

Dr Mitch Besser commented on the collaboration saying, “We are honoured and extremely grateful to Victoria Beckham and The Outnet for their very generous support of mothers2mothers. We’d like to thank those who shop for joining us to eliminate HIV/AIDS in children and keep their mothers alive.”

The British designer commented on the partnership with The Outnet, saying that she approached the online-retailer for its renowned global reputation; the perfect platform to build awareness of the charity and host the sale.

The Outnet president, Stephanie Phair commented, “We are thrilled to be working with Victoria Beckham and her team on this exciting charity event.  From the start, The Outnet has defined itself by its strong relationships and collaborations with designers in luxury fashion and we are confident we can draw an enormous amount of interest for these iconic items and raise awareness for mothers2mother.”

In addition to some of the iconic pieces up for sale, including a Louise Feraud dress worn by Victoria to the Chanel SS08 show, and a Roberto Cavalli floor length gown to the pre-World Cup in 2006, 10 items from Victoria’s wardrobe will be place in a ‘Going, Going, Gone’ reverse auction.
From August 20th– 24th at 9:30am and 3:30pm an item from the designers closet will be sold in reverse auction, where the price will reduce by a fixed amount every five minutes.

“I’m sure everyone will have lots of fun shopping such a fashion treasure trove.”
