Her studies concluded this year, where she graduated in Fashion Design Technology Womenswear from the London College of Fashion. Kyo Yun Park’s aesthetic is very distinctive, with severe lines and unequivocal silhouettes.
Throughout her BA, the upcoming designer embarked on a range of internships where her skills and strengths were identified amid 2D and 3D techniques. With acknowledging the development of pattern work whilst working with innovative fabrications, Kyo strives to craft the perfect fit with sartorial meticulousness.
Entitled “Origami”, Kyo’s Autumn/Winter 2017 collection is characterised by structural shapes that evoke a masculine and feminine vision. Bold details are seen juxtaposed with melodramatic, exaggerated designs that include sensual, subtle touches. A striking colour palette of black and white is applied to denim and crinoline, where the silhouettes are a natural outcome of various shapes in different scales over the body.
Key looks from the graduate’s collection include a high neck, black cropped blouse featuring accentuated shoulders and angular sleeves which are styled with a flowing, floor-length black layered skirt. In contrast, Kyo showcases a softer look, exuding an ultra feminine feel via a white, layered sleeveless dress that experiments with silhouette and proportion.
Imagination and handcraft are at the heart of Kyo Yun Park’s aesthetic and are best reflected on a pair of white trousers, featuring a flared leg adorned with embellishments, while the other side is cut on a sharp angle and grazes below the knee. Styled with a contrasting, sheer coloured top, it features the addition of intentionally visible black stitch work, which presents shape and construction that beautifully resembles origami.
Through her vision and dedication, Kyo Yun Park attains the sound ability to bring her attention-grabbing clothing to life.
