Sheer Pieces and Lingerie
Sheer pieces and lingerie highly influenced the pieces on the runway this year, featuring intimate lace details, sheer fabrics but with an element of versatility. Pieces designed to be worn underneath our clothing, are now being embraced to be worn alone. From New York to Milan and Paris, designers used subtle, sheer and sleek layering of garments, compared to London who used more elevated pieces and contrast by using bold graphics and delicate blouses. Whilst this trend, can be interpreted in different ways, the use of intimate garments highlights women embracing their femininity, and inspiring their confidence.

Eco-Conscious Fashion
Eco-conscious fashion is becoming more of a part of fashion now, as consumers and brands are now becoming more aware of the social and environmental impacts of unsustainable fashion practices. During SS25 across all four fashion capitals, some designers used recycled and eco-friendly fabrics such as organic cotton and upcycled textiles. In Paris, Stella McCartney has been leading the way with cruelty-free and recycled materials, which affirms even high-end designers can incorporate sustainability. As shown further in London and New York, with its designers such as award winner S.S. Daley, creating more versatile garments using deadstock fabrics and zero-waste techniques for a more sustainable approach. In Milan, brands like Prada and Marni also incorporated deadstock fabrics into their designs. This highlights how the fashion industry is gradually changing to more conscious fashion choices and processes.

Effortless Layering
Layering in the SS25 collections was explored in various ways, from sheer pieces and tailored looks to athleisure, outerwear, and transitional layering. Designers from all four fashion capitals embraced this trend. In Paris, Chloé showcased light layers mixed with knitwear, flowy dresses, and outerwear. Milan’s Prada focused on minimalist layering, combining tailored lightweight pieces like shirts, skirts, and coats. In New York, designers such as Peter Do took a more structured approach, featuring defined blazers contrasted with flowy garments. Meanwhile, in London, Burberry highlighted its signature outerwear, using traditional layering techniques to elevate classic styles, while Phoebe English created soft tailored layers that added form as well as function.

Tailoring and Power Suits
Tailoring in formal wear is a prominent trend this season, reviving the trend of the power suits of the 1980s. In New York, Proenza Schouler, similar to Peter Do’s layering, emphasised sharp shoulders and cinched waists, creating modern silhouettes. Milan’s designers used structured tailoring with bold colours and fabrics, while in Paris, brands like Balenciaga featured exaggerated shoulders in its looks and in London Erdem presented the power suit in pastels. This resurgence in tailoring not only celebrates the essence of power dressing but also invites a new generation to redefine this trend to become more personal to their style.
Conclusion
SS25 created the trends for the season. The use of sheer fabrics, modernised tailoring, eco-conscious fashion and lace details, from New York, Milan, London and Paris, showed how fashion trends can be worn and incorporated into styles in an array of ways to fit your own personal style.
