The CHANEL, le19M & The King’s Foundation Métiers d’art Atelier Fellowship
About the Programme
This intensive eight-month, fully funded fellowship supports the next generation of fashion makers. Based at Dumfries House in Scotland, fellows will design, handcraft, and present a capsule collection, gaining world-class artisanal training in sustainable luxury craftsmanship.
Open to graduates in Fashion Design, Fashion Technology, and Tailoring/Pattern Cutting, the programme blends traditional skills with modern design. Training is delivered by expert tutors at The King’s Foundation with mentorship from CHANEL and le19M, the Paris hub for Métiers d’art craftsmanship.
The fellowship builds on the success of the Metiers d’Art Embroidery and Millinery Fellowships and offers a living bursary for all participants.
Programme Aim
To nurture highly skilled makers who will shape the future of luxury, sustainability, and high-end fashion production.
Programme Structure (Starts January 2026)
Stage 1 – Design & Technical Development (12 weeks)
Stage 2 – Collection Production (12 weeks)
Stage 3 – Exploration & Consolidation (11 weeks)
Fellows will work from an existing design brief inspired by artisan skills, historical and contemporary references, and the connection between luxury and the natural world.
Outcomes
By completion, fellows will:
- Master advanced technical and production skills
- Gain experience in small-scale luxury manufacturing
- Collaborate with leading global industry partners
- Produce a team capsule collection and an individual showcase piece
- Build a strong professional portfolio ready for industry entry
Location
The fellowship takes place at Dumfries House, East Ayrshire, Scotland, requiring relocation for the duration. Nearby towns offer accommodation options, and travel support guidance will be provided.
Eligibility
Applicants must have graduated within the last three years from Degree-level courses in:
- Fashion Design
- Fashion Technology
- Tailoring / Pattern Cutting
We’re seeking individuals with strong technical sewing skills, good 2D–3D translation, attention to detail, and a clear ambition to work in luxury garment making.

Video
Introduce yourself, your practice, and discuss one key portfolio piece. Explain your motivations and the skills you want to develop. Written Submission
Share your perspective on luxury craftsmanship, referencing a designer, garment, or collection that inspires you. Describe how you would interpret its qualities in your own work through silhouette, movement, colour, texture, and material.
Portfolio
Include:
- Research and design development
- Prototypes, samples, and work-in-progress
- Finished garments showing precision and finish
- Clear personal style and annotations

Shortlisting & Interviews
A panel from The King’s Foundation and luxury partners will shortlist candidates, who will then be invited to interview at Dumfries House.
