Fashion – Enter Ltd / FTA Donates Fabric Offcuts to “Weaving Waves” – A Celebration of Community Creativity & Sustainability

03-10-2025

In a vibrant show of creativity and community spirit, Fashion-Enter Ltd (FEL) and its training arm, Fashion Technology Academy (FTA), based in Haringey, North London, proudly supported the recent Weaving Waves event with a generous donation of fabric offcuts. The event, which formed part of the North Paddington Canalside Festival (NPCF), brought together around 60 participants for a joyful communal weaving workshop, highlighting the power of sustainable textiles and inclusive arts.

Organised by Chuntian Hu, founder of Canal Dream (CD), a Community Interest Company (CIC) launched in 2023, Weaving Waves transformed a boat into a floating creative studio. Canal Dream is a non-profit arts and cultural organisation that positions art and creativity as catalysts for canal regeneration and social innovation. By using London’s waterways as both inspiration and venue, the initiative brings together communities through cross-sector partnerships and site-specific programming.

Held on Saturday, 27th September, Weaving Waves saw participants from all walks of life including a surprise guest, the Lord Mayor of Westminster – come aboard to contribute to a collective weaving project. Using only end-of-life textiles and fabric offcuts donated by ethical fashion and interiors organisations, the workshop embodied the values of Second Hand September, a campaign promoting reuse and conscious consumption.

The fabric offcuts donated by Fashion-Enter Ltd / Fashion Technology Academy were vital in bringing colour, texture, and sustainability to the event. As a social enterprise committed to ethical manufacturing and education in the fashion industry, FEL / FTA’s involvement underscored the importance of industry-led support for community-based environmental initiatives.

“Thank you again for providing us with the offcuts – they helped us bring such a fun and colourful day to the community!” said organiser Chuntian Hu. “Your support made our sustainable creative practice possible—making the event greener and the water cleaner.”

As part of the next phase of the project, Canal Dream plans to assemble the individual woven pieces into one large-scale artwork. Though some materials are delicate, the completed installation will serve as a lasting tribute to shared creativity, sustainability, and community connection.

In addition to Fashion-Enter Ltd / FashionCapital, the event was supported by other ethical fabric donors including Haines Collection and Eva the Weaver. The project was also made possible through funding from City of Westminster and the support of The Floating Classroom initiative.
