December 2010 – Milsom Place ‘Get The Party Started’ Press Release

Get the Party Started at Milsom Place

British Designers@Fashion Capital has pieces direct from the catwalk or created by up and coming designers.  The PPQ party dresses are not for the faint hearted and Hannah Marshall’s creations are equally adventurous like her velvet cat suit or suede dress with sequined winged epaulettes.  Nina Bon Bina is an up and coming designer with easy to wear designs like her “touch of paisley” silver on black dress.  Make a statement with Akong London and her high-impact, striking, handmade necklaces and Vjera Vilicnik hand embellished dress – an outfit that may appear simple and classical but looks can be deceiving, the back is embellished with beads, braids and even feathers.

alt

PPQ dress + Akong London necklace

No round-up of the best festive dresses would be complete without some obligatory sparkle. This season, the sequin dress comes in its most sophisticated incarnation at Hobbs, where the Kenwood shimmering black number from the NW3 collection hugs in all the right places, while elegantly sitting just above the knee. Detachable straps add versatility and help justify a purchase – just tell yourself it’s two dresses in one!  For the scarlet woman, Hobbs’ Vita dress will make an entrance or for a more demure look Aristotle is a long sleeved black dress with simple but elegant detail around the neckline to add some sparkle. There is nothing modest about Hobbs’ Blaise Leopard print platform shoes or the NW3 Keats, eye catching studded platform peep toes.  Hobbs has fun and funky shoes and cool clutches to complete the party look.

Sparkling embellishments and a touch of gold, velvets and sequins are this season’s themes at Phase Eight with shrugs, boleros, and fur jackets being must have accessories when considering the perfect dress. The Phase Eight Kate dress is sure to be a winner this season.  This strappy little number has the look of overlapping ribbons in two tones; pink and purple, shades of petrol blue, or classic black and white. The Julep is highly embellished for a smart sophisticated look, and the Hope Disc dress will be a glittering success on the disco floor.  If you’ve got a slim waist to show off, check out the Venetia dress – a simple waisted style in black with a striking red sash, or check out another black and red combination, Beatrice Burnout in 100% silk.

At Bath independent, Image, you will find the ultimate in cocktail glamour, evening dresses and separates in luxurious fabrics; silk, and velvets – perfect for day to evening party wear. Shopping with one-to-one advice at Image you can solve that seasonal riddle; how do I look glam and gorgeous after lifting a huge turkey in and out of the oven?

New addition to the Milsom Place scene, Hannah Dulcie brings seamless and strapless lingerie for party perfection.  Hannah says, “if you wear lovely matching lingerie you will feel good about yourself as well as looking great”. So banish thoughts of Bridget Jones’ big knicker moments and go for an altogether more glamorous look.  Hannah has some very special designers like Stella McCartney who offer a strapless bra, just perfect for the party season.

At Traffic People, creators Mark Readman and Louise Reynolds state floaty florals and feminine fancies as the inspiration behind the brand, and this season’s collection is no exception. Full of soft silks and satins, party dresses are definitely order of the day. From pretty tea dresses to full on cocktail glamour, Traffic People ensure that you will stand out from the crowd. Traffic is truly a girl’s best friend with their attention to detail set to flatter every girl’s figure, with cinched in waists (the All That Shimmers Belt Dress), puffball sleeves, pleats and frills. The Snake in the Grass Butterfly Top is a cool style that every girls needs to funk up their wardrobe or the Working Girls Sigourney Dress is the perfect evening dress, add killer heels for a cocktail night look.

If escaping in your lunch hour is not an option, the shops in Milsom Place are staying open late on Thursday nights from 18th November onwards and you can get some gift shopping done at the same time before rewarding yourself with a cocktail at the Moon and Sixpence or meeting up with some mates for a seasonal get together at Solo Pizza or Jamie’s Italian.  Book early to be sure of getting a table.

The L&R Group

The L&R Group is a private group of companies whose directors, unusually, have extensive previous experience in the ownership of retail, catering and other leisure businesses, as well as their current property interests. They  are often involved with town centre  initiatives and currently Operations Director,  Sarah Mansfield,  sits on the boards of City Centre Management and Bath Tourism Plus. The head office is based in Bath.

The L&R Group specialises in the creation and management of new destinations within sensitive, complex and historic town centres. Their particular brand of development has involved discovering and opening up new routes and frontages and the refurbishment and integration of listed buildings to create one-off, retail-led environments. Notable developments include Windsor (Windsor Royal Station) which rejuvenated an area focussed on a Grade II* Listed Victorian railway station in front of Windsor Castle introducing  8 new restaurants and 25 new shops into the town and connecting its main shopping streets,  and Bath (Milsom Place) where an existing 1980’s shopping centre has been refurbished and linked into a network of new ‘streets’ and listed buildings on adjoining land to create an ‘estate’ forming the heart of the city’s prime retail area.

Press Release

alt

July 2010

From South East to South West; hot on the heels of a highly successful  new talent retail concept comes a follow-on initiative at Milsom Place in the World Heritage City of Bath. The ‘British Designers Boutique’ will showcase the very best in British fashion direct from the catwalk.

Bath, and Milsom Quarter in particular, has long been established as a fashion shopping destination with its diverse mix of independent boutiques alongside high street favourites; and this year Bath’s Milsom Street won the title of ‘UK’s Best Fashion Street’ in the Google Street Awards. The ‘Fashion Museum’ and the growing success of Bath Spa University’s fashion department add further weight to the city’s style credentials.

JoJo Iles manager & PR of the concept boutique comments: “We’ve had our eye on Bath for sometime and we feel that the British Designers Boutique will bring a unique offer to its door. Not only will we house key designers from the catwalks of London Fashion Week but we aim to provide space and support for up and coming talent.”

Development manager Vanessa Isaia adds: “The British Designers Boutique will enable people to buy designer pieces that are normally only found in London. The boutique will stock designers such as Emma Cook, Jean Pierre Braganza & Julien MacDonald and will offer fantastic reductions on limited samples and pieces from previous seasons. We are naturally very excited about this new project and look forward to working with the designers as well as the Universities and local talent in and around Bath.”

alt

The recently completed Milsom Place estate uses an innovative blend of old and new architecture to link Bath’s most established fashion streets and is already home to mainstream names such as Hobbs, Ted Baker, Cath Kidston and Phase Eight. Ken Elliott, Director at Milsom Place Ltd, comments: “We are thrilled to provide a home for British Designers Boutique here, we are always looking for concepts that will continue to enhance the vibrant mix of both established and new fashion brands we have here and BDB will fit in extremely well.”

The British Designers Boutique will initially launch as a pop-up concept and is due to open at 14/15 Milsom Place, Bath on the 1st September 2010.
