Stitching Academy for Tomorrow’s Designers
Here at FashionCapital we agree with Dorota Watson, Subject Head of Fashion & Textiles, UEL, that; “the best designers are usually the best pattern cutters”.There is something to be said for truly understanding the garment production process and creating designs that work. Hence, our ongoing Stitching Academy for Tomorrow’s Designers course at the FTA. This 6-week course is ideal if you want to start a career in fashion design and if you live in Newham, Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets, Hackney or Islington this course is FREE.

Georgina Casey, a current Level 3 apprentice commented: “Working in a production environment I’ve learnt a lot more than I initially realised. I get to see meetings with clients that go on everyday, understand all the processes and how you really need to be disciplined and hard working because of client deadlines. I am constantly seeing Kasia juggling everything and Rosie dealing with the clients ensuring they’re happy. A few weeks left and still a lot of room for learning. I’m looking forward to successfully signing off with a Level 3 Diploma.”
Factory Uncovered with Arcadia
Today we welcome Admin Buying Assistants and Assistant Buyers from Arcadia group on our CPPD workshop ‘Factory Uncovered’. We look forward giving the group a live factory insight into the production process.

Jessica commented: “I’ve learnt how to cost a garment, how to decrease a cost price without compromising the look of the product and terminology which I did not know anything about. I feel much more confident.”
Adding to her colleague’s comments, Athena went on to say: “I’ve learnt how our decisions in the buying office impact our factories. Every change or request has an implication and I will now think about that each day in my job.”
“I feel I’ve gained confidence and knowledge that I can apply to my job role. Thank you.” – Kelsie-Ann
