NEWSLETTER 19th August 2015

“Tell me I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin. This quote certainly resonates here at Fashion Capital and our sister company Fashion Enter. All of our training, apprenticeships and Continual Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) courses engage and involve the individual to create a practical and insightful approach to learning. As reported in the media of late skills shortages are causing a negative impact on the construction industry and the same can be said for fashion production, there simply aren’t enough skilled workers to meet demand. If you are looking to learn or upskill in fashion production then check out our range of workshops and accredited courses click here.

Selve Krishnan Talks About Her Stitching Academy Experience:

19 aug selve head shotSelve: “I joined the Stitching Academy Level 1 course because I wanted to design and make my own garments.  At the beginning, my sewing skills were rudimentary, as I had no previous exposure to industrial sewing machines.  Some of the tasks were challenging but with the brilliant support of Leyla, I persevered and passed my assessment last month.

“This course has over delivered by enabling students like me obtain an accredited qualification as well as boosting our social capital which is so vital for wellbeing.  Magic!  I will certainly pursue a level 2 course and continue to be enchanted by the Stitching Academy.”

Introducing Lan Leeder – Pattern Cutter

19 aug lan pattern cutter“When I came for the interview at Fashion Enter I was so excited because its such a unique set up. Being a social enterprise and a centre of excellence for manufacturing and training made me realise this is just where I wanted to be in my career progression. It’s a great team environment here.

“I first graduated from London College of Fashion with a National Diploma in 2000, followed by a degree in Fashion and Marketing at the University of East London in 2004. My first job was as a Junior Pattern cutter at a leading manufacturer in North London. I worked alongside their senior pattern cutter for 2 years, and gradually had my own accounts with the Arcadia group, Sainsbury’s and Tesco’s. I then moved on and worked for a small ladies wear brand for 8 years, designing and pattern cutting in house.”
