Dear all,

This week at FashionCapital the Stitching Academy continues to fly with candidates now in their third week of the Level 1 Stitching course with ASOS. The official launch will take place 4th September and we are delighted to confirm that the Minister for Employment Mark Hoban will be attending.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet the first cohort of learners completing the Level 1 award in Fashion and Textiles (Stitching) and can review the facilities being offered.

Sonia Fernandez is currently on the course and had this to say:

‘I am on my third week of the stitching course now and I think that it is going very well. Everyone is extremely motivated and keen to learn the skills being taught. This course is set to help me in my future career which is great and I look forward to learning more every day’

Reform and Consultation on Apprenticeship Schemes

In a bid to boost England’s economy and promote healthy business growth the Government is currently consulting on new proposals that will give employers direct funding to take on apprentices and run effective training schemes.

The Government, at present, is consulting on funding reforms proposed by the entrepreneur Doug Richard, which will run until the 1st October. These reforms will give employers freedom to choose the training that is most relevant to the needs of the apprentices and their businesses, and which represents best value. The Richard Review of Apprenticeships, published last year, looked at how apprenticeships in England can meet the needs of the changing economy. Three options are being presented, but alternative models will also be welcome. To review the three proposals please click here

2. Employment Tribunals rules of procedure

There has been an overhaul of the Tribunal’s rules of procedure giving Employment Judges wider case management powers. The changes have been largely welcomed but time will tell how much of an impact they will have.
