Dear all,

This Morning’s Perfect Party Dress

Last Friday over 600 entries were screened for the Perfect party dress competition for ITV’s flagship daytime TV show This Morning which has been facilitated by FashionCapital

The winning dress will be sold in selected stores and online, at high street retailer John Lewis, leading up to the Christmas season.

Judging the competition are Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker of fashion label PPQ; Jo Hooper, Head of Buying, Womenswear at John Lewis and This Morning’s fashion expert & stylist Faye Sawyer.

We were delighted with this season’s collection – we have received an amazing feedback. Its a busy time for us with increased sales and the Perfect Dress competition with John Lewis ITV and FashionCapital but its all amazing!’ PPQ

The winning dress must be suitable for sale in John Lewis; as Jo explains: “We’re looking for a party dress that fits well, appeals to a variety of ages and sizes and is suitable for the current fashion market.”

Fashion Enter membership – Case Study

As a not for profit organisation we are here to provide that all important advice to up and coming designers embarking on their own business. We know only too well how difficult it is to succeed in this industry and this is why we offer the services we do to ensure you don’t fail where many others have.

Peep Baby, a designer who has been a member with us for a year now came to us regarding an order that she was about to process. Luckily we advised her to research the company first and do not send anything until payment had been made. As soon as she looked into this it was revealed this was in fact a scam and was potentially about to lose a large sum of money on her first big order….

Thank you Fashion Capital for the advice. I nearly lost £000s of stock if you had not advised me of this credit card scam. Its reassuring to know I have someone on my side. It’s not easy being a designer and business entrepreneur working every day by myself!’

We are now concentrating on getting Peep Baby in front of retailers such as New Look to facilitate a legitimate order!

Peep Baby is currently sold on www.peepbaby.co.ukwww.boohoobaby.co.uk www.boohoo.ie

Apprenticeships update

Another apprentice was enrolled today – Georgia will be working for fashion boutique Forreduci.
On Friday we welcome a number of apprentices to the Fashion Studio for an interview and if there are any employers considering taking part in the Apprenticeship scheme this would be a great opportunity to come down and meet some of the candidates.
Apprentices can benefit employers in many ways, especially as they are a young, dynamic workforce with new approaches to the fashion industry.
If you are looking for an extra pair of hands to help with your label/company for the next 18 months please contact jemima@fashion-enter.com

Fashion Enter would also like to welcome two new apprentices to the Fashion Studio. Danielle De Souza and Shannon Lloyd have both joined the team on the Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeship programme. Take a look at their profiles here

Welcome back to Emily Tullett

Emily was one of the original members of the Fashion Enter team when we established back in 2006. Last year she embarked on a year’s long internship in New York. Emily has now returned and we are delighted to welcome her back to the team. Her new role will be Head of Learning and Education.

After completing my years long contract with Citi Private Bank in New York whilst keeping in contact with the Fashion Enter family, I am now extremely excited to be back working with the team on all educational activities. It has been a fantastic year in the Big Apple but I am now keen to continue promoting the importance of integrating industry knowledge and experience into the classroom at all levels of education. Fashion Enter is a fantastic company with incredible people and its great to be a part of the team again.’

Getting paid – protect your position

You will of course enter into contracts to sell your goods, whether you are a business or a sole trader. What you want to avoid is not being paid for whatever it is you are selling . The tough economic climate makes it even more difficult than usual to get your cash in. Non-payment or delayed payment means poor cash flow. That in turns means you may not be able to pay your own creditors… which could be serious and in some cases lead to someone trying to wind up your company or make you personally bankrupt.
