Embroidery courses at The Fashion Studio
FashionCapital is delighted to announce it will soon be offering embroidery courses covering thread work, bead work and 3D embroidery to create wearable art!
Using a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques to create beautiful pieces of art to wear, display or put to practical use however you want. You can customise garments, accessories or furnishing.
On the course, students will be introduced to the various media available and work with their preferred options across the five weeks of the course. They will learn to work from concept to product using thread, beads, stones, metals, crystals or textiles to create unique embellishments for items of their choice.
Each student will choose a concept/project and with expert guidance, develop it from idea to product. They will receive a personalised handbook created for them incorporating their learning on the media and project of their choice.

The course will be taken by Eni-ola
Eni-ola was born into a family of traditional craftsmen who worked in metal, beads and textiles and began creating wearable art at a very early age. Against the backdrop of family tradition and trade that went back generations, she first learnt the crafts from her grandparents who created beautiful embellishments to clothing, accessories and soft furnishing. The family business provided endless resources for experimentation and unbridled adventures in creativity. She decided to explore contemporary ways of applying the ancient traditional techniques she’d learnt as a hobby while studying for a degree in Physiology. Appreciation and demand for her creations soon convinced her to continue the family crafts and trade creating bespoke ceremonial / occasional clothing and bridal wear. With many years of experience in bespoke embellished clothes making, she later studied Product design and development at the London college of Fashion. She now lives and practices in London.

‘Vanity sizing – exploding the myths’
Alvanon was founded in 2001 by Dr. Kenneth Wang, a successful manufacturer of children’s clothing and world-renowned expert in the apparel industry. Alvanon quickly demonstrated that poor fit was common across the industry, leading to billions of dollars in costs worldwide from returns, markdowns, alterations and exchanges. The mission of the company quickly became clear – to help manufacturers, retailers and brands make the transition away from outdated perceptions and begin employing the latest research in body shape as smoothly and inexpensively as possible. They are executing their vision to be the industry’s global size and fit expert, through use of scientifically backed strategy consulting and practical tools. See below a snippet of the president’s view on vanity sizing within the apparel industry.
There is a perception that an increasing number of fashion suppliers downsize the sizing on their labels in order to make customers feel better about the clothes they try on and buy. This practice called ‘vanity sizing’ is not as prevalent as some would have us believe. Apparel sizing and fit expert Ed Gribbin clarifies the situation.
