The Summer Dress
Last Friday the BrandAlley team headed over from Paris and their London offices to take a look at this months entries for the Summer Dress Competition. We had a great turn out receiving more samples than any of the competitions we have done before.
After a long day of deliberation we managed to come to an agreement on which dresses would make it into the final selection. We will be contacting those selected over the next few days so keep checking your inbox!

BD@FC – W1 closes its doors
FashionCapital will be closing the doors of the W1 boutique on 23rd May. The pop up shop opened in December 2010 and originally we were only given a three month lease, this was then extended by the landlords three times but it is now time to leave. Although sales have been slower than expected due to low footfall there has been some fantastic press and PR around the boutique with the seminars and events we have held here.
A huge thank you to the landlords and PR company at Portman Village, this has been a fantastic opportunity for British Designers at FashionCapital.
We urge all designers to come and collect their stock on Friday 20th May and please be advised that if stock is not collected FE can not be held responsible for the stock which will be transferred to Barking. The contact for Barking is Syreeta McQueen on syreeta@fashion-enter.com.

The latest from Bath…
We’ve been hitting the local headlines once again this week this time featuring our South West Competition winner Joshua Riches. His designs are in production as we speak and will soon be available to try and buy at the boutique, we’ll keep you updated.
Joshua and his fellow 2nd Year students will be heading to the London workshop once again this Friday to present their final designs for the ASOS Black / Clothes Show brief. Good luck to all of them, we already saw some innovative ideas emerging a few weeks ago and this brief could provide the unique opportunity of getting in with the country’s leading online fashion retailer! More on this next week.
Last Saturday film maker Michael Stylianou collaborated with the Bath boutique to create a short promo film featuring several of our designers. Thank-you to Alexis the model from Shoot DHS Models, so professional and adaptable – she looked great in everything! Also to No 3 Hair salon for stepping in at the last minute, Emma for her styling and David for generally helping out and making us all laugh. It was a great day and we hope to share the short film with you soon.
Just in new label ‘Tramp in Disguise’ – vibrant, unique prints galore.

22nd – 22nd May – There will the FashionCapital end of spring clearance sale at Vicarage Field Shopping Centre, Barking
11th June at Romford Shopping Hall the FashionCapital Fusion event will take place offering huge designer discounts and tips on styling! Then on the 18th June the same event will take place in East Ham.
17th June – Sample Sale at the Music Rooms Mayfair
9th September – Sample Sale

Fantastic opportunity for designers to design for Ruby Rocks
Ruby Rocks is giving the opportunity to all you designers out there to become a part of the Ruby Rocks’ mid-season collections.
Each designer is requested to submit approximately 5-10 of their best shapes with print and fabric options 31st May 2011. The selection process will take one week and then sample collections will be made up all with the Ruby Rocks branding and sent to agents to be shown to customers / stockists through the UK, Ireland, Germany, and USA. The designer’s names that are chosen will feature on newly designed Ruby Rocks swing tags showing the collaborative that created the collection. These will be limited edition collectables.
Ruby Rocks will decide which styles will be chosen to best suit. The delivery of the production is aimed at mid August, so please bear that in mind when submitting your designs.

SFA Seeking Apprenticeship
SFA are looking to employ an apprentice as soon as possible so if you are interested in working with a leading print specialist to work with embroidery, print machines and accompanying software whilst having the capacity to learn quickly then this is the job for you. Not only will you have the opportunity to work with this leading printers, you will also be enrolled onto the fashion and textiles apprenticeship programme where you will gain a level 3 qualification over the 18month contract period. This unique opportunity to work in fashion and have the combined opportunity to earn whilst you learn will set you in great stead for a long standing career in the fashion industry. Princes Trust Seminar
Today, a group of young trainees on a Prince’s Trust/Asos.com program called “Get Started with Fashion” came to attend a seminar and tour around the Factory and Workshop to gain a greater insight into the fashion industry. They started off at the Workshop and were given an introduction into the design process and were told about experiences of Workshop staff as well as given a guided tour. They were then taken to the Factory where they were given a guided tour and saw how mass production took place and the process flowed throughout the premises. The trainees were given a fantastic insight into the behind the scenes of the fashion industry as well as learning about the range of roles available to aim towards in fashion.
