How FashionCapital can help
Now ranked 12th in world for the world ‘fashion’ in Google FashionCapital is really flying and with more and more people finding out about us and using our services its inevitable we meet those loyal users when out and about.
‘Sometimes faith and chance do cooperate together and make it happen! While waiting at the reception of the British Fashion Council to hand in the collection of the designer I have been working for, I suddenly realised I was sitting next to Jenny Holloway who had brought the delegation from South Africa to review fashion. Jenny has introduced me to Masana Chikeka who will hopefully help me on my dissertation Labour conditions in the textile industry focusing on Africa. I would also like to meet Di Milford from the Gateway Project. This is just one of many ways that FashionCapital has helped me!'
Andrea Hernández Valderrama is writing a dissertation on ethical fashion focusing in the labour conditions aspects of the textile industry in South Africa, which is being directed by professors from the London College of Fashion. Andrea is personally interested in all the different approaches (ecological, sustainability, ethical consume patterns, ethical-business model) that the concept of ethical fashion enhances. However if anyone is interested in the issue, and wants to exchange ideas, information or has any contact that could help Andrea in her research then please get in touch. Email: hv.andrea@gmail.com.
In retail this week
Retail sales in Central London in April were 2.7 per cent higher than last year. However the increase was below the 4.5 per cent in April 2007. Stephen Robertson, Director General of British Retail Consortium said: "London retailers continued to weather the tough economic climate better than the rest of the UK as a whole, with upmarket fashion accessories, fragrances and skincare doing well. Despite colder and wetter weather, shopper numbers were up slightly. Retailers in the capital will work hard to continue delivering value, especially as household incomes get squeezed."
Karen Levy – Fabric Consultant
‘I am representing a UK silk manufacturer selling wonderful silks at very competitive prices. They carry a large amount of beautiful rich colours that are in stock. The minimums are small and you do not need to purchase large quantities.
The fabrics we are running are crepe back satin which is £8.48 a meter at 137cms wide, chiffon at £4.90 a meter, georgette at £5.82 a meter and organza, crepe de chine, silk jersey, habotai and taffeta.
This should not be missed if you use silk fabrics!'
