Warehouse A/W 08
Last night FashionCapital was invited to review high street retailer Warehouse's Autumn/Winter collection 08. Aptly set in a large Warehouse the collection was showcased on a series on mannequins stood on an earthy faux grass floor with quaint stepping stones leading you up and down the aisles. Overall a highly sophisticated evening of fashion, freebies and of course champers!

This week's Retail News
UK retail sales plummet in March. The volume of retail sales fell 0.4 per cent in March – the biggest decrease since January 2007, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Retail in the UK is really suffering at the moment. Constant reports of sales dropping and the increased popularity of online shopping means the high street is entering a recession. Sir Philip Green has already warned us to expect some high profile downfalls.
Retailers such as Primark and Matalan continue to sell tops at the cut down price of £3 or less. How can this be possible when we all know the fabric alone must cost more than this? Only last September two major British high street retailers launched inquiries into allegations that workers producing clothes for their stores are being exploited. Cut-price fashion store Primark and baby specialist Mothercare announced the probes after an investigation into pay and conditions in Bangalore found that factory workers are being paid as little as 13p an hour, and can work up to 48 hours a week.
These stores continue to provide the consumer with these seriously low priced garments. Disposable fashion may the thing of the moment but surely the consumer will soon realise exclusivity and quality costs a little more?
South African delegates to visit UK
After our very successful visit to South Africa in March, the South African companies we made excellent contact with are taking part in a reciprocal visit to London. FashionCapital are organising an in depth review of the London fashion scene to give our South African delegates a unique insight into one of the world's greatest fashion capitals. They will meet with retailers, manufacturers and other leading companies in the industry. From the delegation will be Masana Chikeka the Sector Manager of the Department for Arts and Culture. Masana is extremely influential in the fashion industry in South Africa. We are delighted that Masana will be attending and look forward to showing her and the other delegates what London has to offer.

FashionCapital – here to help you
Last week director Jenny Holloway spoke at the Designer Forum conference as part of a series of conferences for fashion and textile graduates. At FashionCapital we are here to support and provide guidance to students and graduates. The fashion industry can be extremely difficult to succeed in and without the correct support graduates often find themselves at a loss. We are here to help and with our team of specialists and expert knowledge on the industry can ensure you are on the right tracks.
Mira Kakad, a Fashion Design gradate from UCCA attended Jenny's presentation and later commented:
‘First of all I would like to say a big THANK YOU for just doing what you do! I attended your presentation at RIBA with the designer forum on Thursday 24th April. After your presentation I felt good and bad! Bad because I realised that there is so much I should have done after I graduated…And good because you are here to help young designers like me to get out there! So thank you once again! The first thing I did when I got home that day is registered with your site.'
