The
international catwalk collections may well be over but here at FashionCapital
HQ the fashion whirlwind continues.
Director
Jenny Holloway and Creative Assistant Jenni Sutton have just returned from a
positively productive trip to South
Africa.
Jenny
commented: “We had over 17 meetings in South Africa
and each one was a resounding success at many levels. For the designers we work
with we had a positive meeting with FashionTV and Eli Saig who is the joint MD.
I have waited six long years to get an appointment with Eli and I can’t believe
that by chance we walked into Rosebank Mall, popped into the FashionTV retail
shop and was escorted to Eli straight away. My jaw dropped to the floor!”
Jenny
continues: “An hour later we had
confirmation that Eli was coming to see us in May! It’s early days yet and I
obviously didn’t want to push it but my intention here is to get Eli to agree
to some kind of selection process for designers to get exposure on the
FashionTV channel! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
And there’s more…
There were
other great results too, including an order from Foschini stores. They have
designs from the ‘Launched to Critical Acclaim’ initiative at Fashion-Enter,
plus designs from Shyamoki, Stateless and Corsellis and they are letting us
know about potential orders that amount to 800 pieces each. The only problem
being that the stock has to be made in Africa
but we are on the case and have sourced a CMT unit to work with.
Plus Jenny
has been asked to be a judge at the highly esteemed Old Mutual Vukani Fashion
Awards, an event organised by Sonwabile Ndamase. As well as judging Jenny will
undertake mentoring sessions for successful designers and hopes to promote some
of our UK
designers on the catwalk south of the hemisphere.
Profile & Nolcha New York
We
mentioned a while back that our catwalk event Profile would be heading to the
Big Apple under the wing of Nolcha this September. Five designers have been
selected to attend the pre-show meeting in New York from the 25th March to
the 30th.
The
selected designers are:
Catharina Eden
Rajib Nandi
Gonul Cannur
Mambole Lambu
Karen Barney
Plus, the
additional showcase of FanniAnn and Stateless, who were highly commended on
their collections but are unfortunately located outside of the catchment area.
This trip
has been made possible by Barking & Dagenham Regeneration via Derek Levy,
so many thanks here.

Looking for a Manufacturer?
Then don’t
forget to check out FashionCapital's Manufacturer’s Online Showroom, here’s what
designer Catharina Eden had to say about it:
"I would like to thank the FashionCapital team for helping me
promote awareness for my sampling unit in South Wimbledon, London, which I set
up to help other designers like myself to make their creations reality.
As a designer I understand the finishing and attention to detail that is
required and also the need to work closely with the customer to ensure
everything is perfect. This is exactly the message that FashionCapital has
helped me to send.
The online manufacturing showroom by MAS has given my business the
positive result that I had hoped for and I am very happy with its service and
its sincerity to connect industry and skills.”
The Face of Croydon Round 2
The highly successful model
competition ‘The Face of Croydon’ is back for a second round. Last year the
event attracted 300 young individuals into Fashion-Enter boutique for the
chance to take part in a professionally styled photo shoot. This time we have
teamed up with Arista Cosmetics in the search to find three new faces to
represent the brand.
The new Arista Cosmetics brand is a collection of
premium quality cosmetics products for all women of colour. The brand has
been produced using the best and finest natural ingredients. Ingredients
include – vitamin e, aloe vera natural beeswax and sunscreens.
Arista will be looking for three new faces; one Black, one
Asian and one Latin to promote the new range, winners will also score agency
representation plus a selection of prizes. More on ‘The Face of Croydon 2’
soon…
