5th March 2008
Hello All,
As
Paris closes the International Fashion Week circuit for Autumn/Winter 08/09 our
attention has hastily turned to South Africa. While South Africa may not have
gravitas of Milan or New York, it is steadily building a name for itself on the
designer and textile scene.
Networking
South African Style
Our
director Jenny Holloway is networking with the best of them down in South
Africa as we speak along with resident journalist and fashion-all-rounder Jenni
Sutton. Not only is Jenny checking out the local talent in the Southern
Hemisphere but she is on a trade mission to globally promote Fashion-Enter
designers. Sponsored by both Croydon Business and Barking & Dagenham via
Derek Levy, Jenny has taken collections from 4 Croydon and 4 Barking &
Dagenham designers to present to key industry players.
So
far the feedback has been fantastic with some exciting opportunities already in
the pipeline. From televised fashion shows to educational tie-ins to magazine
exposure to possible stockists, it’s all happening – and Jenny is really
looking forward to meeting with Debbie Dixon who helped organise the trade
mission down in SA.
Yet
another example from the highly productive trip is Jenny’s recent meeting with
fashion industry icon Eli Saig the joint owner of Fashion TV. Discussion
covered a whole spectrum of ideas and concepts that will promote UK design
talent on Fashion TV along with being our special guest at Profile in September
08.
Jenny
Holloway commented: “There are some
amazing enigmatic people in the world of fashion but both Jenni and I were
totally bowled over by the dedication, charm and knowledge of Eli Saig. We are
now working on a brief in a way that our companies can work together plus set
up a series of meetings in London for Eli in April 08! This is an extremely
exciting development for Fashion-Enter and it really was a privilege to meet
such a genuine person.”
This
represents a unique opportunity for Fashion Enter designers and FashionCapital
members and we are hoping to have Profile showcased on Fashion TV.
More
on this and Jenny’s South African TV debut on Africa Awakes Africa Magic’s Official Breakfast Show next week –
until then check out the Fashion Capital interview with Sonwabile Ndamase, a
designer and pioneer for the South African fashion scene.
