21st November 2007

Hello All,

Let battle commence, yes, it’s the rundown to Christmas, not that you need us to remind you with all the in-your-face advertising out there. It will be interesting to see what happens on the high street over the next few weeks with retailers already vying for your hard earned cash via promotions and special offers.

Coming Soon…Fiona Thomson’s India Blog

Bridal and occasional wear designer Fiona Thomson is escaping the Christmas mayhem and hot-footing it to India. She’s not only going for a bit of R&R but will be visiting factories in Bangalore which she discovered at TexWorld in Paris recently. Her aim is to buy bridal silks and commission embroidered and hand-beaded textiles for her designs. Along with the factories Fiona will also be visiting the Bangalore Chamber of Commerce and other associated trade bodies – all useful stuff in the world of production which is why we will be publishing Fiona’s trip to India as a blog on FashionCapital – an insiders view with snaps and useful links throughout. Look forward to that one.

Fiona's designs

Fiona has been in the industry for 17 years and if all goes to plan in India she will be stocking the Enter Boutiques next Spring with her embroidered silk organza stoles – perfect for the wedding season.

FashionExpo & Profile in Motion

Still causing those fashionable tongues to wag is the FashionExpo & Profile event. Feedback has been fantastic and the simple idea of combining a manufacturing platform alongside designer talent has been held up as a great success, not forgetting the workshops which were regularly full to capacity. For an overview of the show check out this video & see if you can spot director Jenny Holloway and editor JoJo Iles…

New to the FC Team

The FC team has been thrilled with the amount of users on the site since its revamp. Numbers are on the climb so we’ve enlisted more journalistic expertise to ensure all areas are being covered.

Focusing on the new Knowledge Bank section we have: Ant Standring and Tom Lofthouse – welcome to the FC ship boys

New Section

We also have included a new ‘competition’ section to the site which will include competitions exclusive to FashionCapital alongside general industry competitions that you could well find useful.

On FC this Week…

JoJo Iles talks to Scottish Designer of the Year 2007: Aimee McWilliams about her ongoing success thus far.
