LFW: Who’s New on the Catwalk?

17-07-2007

London’s September Catwalk Show Schedule is set to excite. The creative energy is palpable, the final schedule is currently being confirmed but we can now announce the confirmed list of new names who will show their collections in London this season alongside the ranks of London favourites Paul Smith, Nicole Farhi, Betty Jackson, Giles Deacon, Jonathan Saunders, to name just a few, and returning British designers Luella and Matthew Williamson.

New on the official schedule are:

Adidas by Stella McCartney brings designer sportswear to the London schedule for the first time. Information on the collection, which is said to be a new concept for Adidas and different from the designer’s sportswear currently retailing, is scarce – the intrigue factor to see Stella’s new format collaboration will make this an exciting, must-see end of week show.

Armand Basi, brings design director Markus Lupfer back to London’s catwalk after a five year break. Lupfur’s own brand collection won critical acclaim between 1999 and 2003. He then went on to work as a design consultant for Cacharel, Ruffo, Kangol, Mulberry and Topshop. September will see Lupfer’s second Spring/Summer collection for Armand Basi, his first collection took the brand in a new, softer, more luxurious and more fashion-focused direction with sumptuous silks, soft leathers and cotton jersey fabrics. For S/S ’08 the collection brings together influences as diverse as samurai warriors, Jackson Pollack, minimalism and OTT excess, combining the beauty of the handmade and the coldness of the synthetic.

Charles Anastase, a Parisian fashion illustrator/fashion designer has been noted as a young talent to watch. His collections exude relaxed sophistication with a distinct attitude which has attracted fashion aficionados and rock stars including his latest muse, Beth Ditto.

Rodnik, launched in 2004 by the quirky design duo Rich and Phil, is an urban fairytale of two philosophy and art history students so enamoured by a long forgotten Russian Princess’s Shop in Moscow that they set out to revive it. They have gone from selling scarves made from Russian Goats Beards to developing a full ready to wear collection that is stocked worldwide in the likes of Barneys, Jeffrey, Maxfield, Corso Como, Browns, and Selfridges. They are known for their off the wall approach to marketing and have been referred to as the ‘Gilbert and George’ of fashion. From their surreal use of parasols, to playing miniature instruments in their up and coming “We are not a rock b®and-world tour”. The collection is sophisticated with a sense of fun.

Returning to show this September are:

Luella, amongst the coolest of international British brands is enjoying global recognition for both ready-to-wear and accessories. Her September 2007 London show heralds the arrival of her flagship Mayfair store, both inducing fever-pitch excitement in several circles.
