Fashion Bites…At On|Off

14-09-2007

The Baroness Kingsmill’s inquiry into the health of London Fashion Week models
offers little in the way of practical help to models at risk of eating disorders (reports The Independent on Sunday, September 9).

Next week, over 200 models will appear in the 16 catwalk shows On|Off will manage during the Week at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Our industry needs to lead by example to tackle the spectre of size zero that haunts these young women.

This season we have published ‘fashion bites’, an innovative, practical credit card sized health information sheet for models, containing essential tips on healthy living and eating during the Week, including about safe sex, drug use and good diets.  It is a collaboration with BEAT, the eating disorders association, FRANK, the drugs information service, the Terrence Higgins Trust and Soho café ‘flavour’ have been working with On|Off to provide all models a health meal backstage at all of On|Off Catwalk shows.

The card is being distributed now at castings for the shows, copies have been sent to every top model agency and they will be handed out backstage at the On|Off shows, reaching over 6,000 people daily.

We at On|Off hope that our positive example will help make a practical difference.
