Profile 6 – Blowing Its Own “Whistles”

10-08-2005

Profile 6 blowing its own    !

Whistles is the new retail sponsor behind the new Designer Award whereby a ladieswear or accessory designer collections will be showcased in a flagship store of Whistles.  Whistles is an amazing label. Pitched at the high end of the Mosaic Fashion Group (which also includes, Oasis, Karen Millen and Coast), Whistles is the premier brand targeted at the confident 20 – 40 year old woman who appreciate style and quality.  To have Whistles on board for Profile 6 on September 20 & 21st at Vinopolis is wonderful news for everyone.

Since the announcement two weeks ago that the retail sponsors now include House of Fraser, Hobbs, Debenhams and Whistles, the LFF have had an unprecedented response with designer applications.  This season we have a prestigious judges panel who will be vetting each applicant for both showcasing at the exhibition and which collection will be gliding down the much coveted catwalk theatre shows.  All retailers send a representative from both the buying office and the design department. In addition we are delighted to announce that Gerry DeVeaux, Contributing Editor to Tatler, MTV style guru and Global Ambassador for Roberto Cavalli will also be on the judging panel.

Over the last three years Profile has hit the fashionistas hot spot.  By combining new and emerging designer talent with high street retailers and also networking industry together by exhibiting business support organisations such as Fladgate Fielder, leading City solicitors spearheaded by the LFF’s Legal Eagle Nick Fenner, Portobello Business Centre, JOFIT, Cutting Edge and many others Profile is that unique bridge between Graduate fashion week and London Fashion Week.  One person who readily identified with the potential and success of Profile was Huw Williams, Marketing Director of WCTA and Partner to Profile.

Huw Williams regrettably passed away a few weeks ago but his sheer dedication and determination live on. Huw Williams was a rare man; a big personality and driving force in clothing and textile. On a personal note there’s not many people I would trust or, if I was honest, admire and respect within the world of BSOs. Too many times I came across too many advisors, specialists and know-alls who actually have never even worked within the industry and have no genuine experience to draw upon.  Theory is all well and good if you are studying but designers, manufacturers and retailers are all busy executives running their business under different trading conditions. Huw was from industry.  He understood the multitude of little guys out there that make our fashion industry so unique. Consequently the LFF is delighted to announce that there is a new award this season of £3,000 to a chosen designer selected by WCTA at Profile 6.

Partners WCTA Virginia Tague said

The WCTA is delighted to continue being a long-term partner to Profile.  Naturally we were all devastated by the sudden loss of Huw Williams but we know he would heartily approve of the Huw Williams tribute award of £3,000. Profile never continues to amaze WCTA with its continual growth.  The large increase in buyer attendance last season shows the commerciality of the event it’s going to be the best ever this September.  Our Welsh designers applicants are way over capacity this season  I wouldn’t want to be on the judging panel this year!
