Saturday 2nd April 201
Today the Young Apprentices continued their handcraft skills, learning the art of embellishments, appliqué and various hand stitching. They leant handcraft techniques such as how to tie a knot. This technique is used mostly for tacking, which can be undone by pulling the short end of the thread. The Young Apprentices learnt how to roll a knot which is a more permanent start for back stitch or running stitch. Also how to securely finish hand stitching to gain a clean neat finish to their work.
The main focus for the Young Apprentices today was to strengthen their hand-stitching skills which consisted of whipstitch or commonly known as over cast stitch which gives a neat finish to raw edges of fabric especially loosely woven fabric.
A thoroughly enjoyable lesson . The students felt free to express themselves given the various forms of embellishing creations.
Shani que enjoyed making a flower created by twirling and pleating the fabric and then securing the design by using back stitch, as you can see from the pictures below.
The Young Apprentices were full of enthusiasm and creativity as you can see from the following pictures below.
Stay tuned and read more on what the Young Apprentices are working on Next Week…..
