Fashion and Textile Apprenticeship
21-06-2010
This is the first Fashion and Textile Apprenticeship available and is therefore in high demand from both potential apprentices and employers alike.
The Framework itself is aimed at various roles in the sector (for a full list see below) and seeks to address the very real and apparent skill gaps in London.
An apprentice is simply an individual learning whilst ‘in the job’, for an employer this could include current as well as new employees and as an example potential roles – but not exclusively – are:
• Garment technologist
• Fabric technologist
• Pattern and grading technologist
• First and seal coster
• First and alterations pattern cutter
• Grader
• Sample machinist
• Quality controller
• Finisher
• Trainee and apprentice tailors / dressmakers

As a potential apprentice, please see www.apprenticeships.gov.uk for more information.
As a minimum, you will need 4 C’s at GCSE level, equivalent or professional experience and be committed to the interview process.
Please note that the intention is for the framework to be on offer from September 2010 – if you are interested in applying for a post as an apprentice and would like to talk through the options further, please contact education@fashioncapital.co.uk for more details and to ensure your name is on the mailing list.
