BA (Hons) Fashion & Brand Promotion and Audio Visual Media at UCLan examines the practical studies of film and video and how they apply to fashion and brand promotion. The course is designed to be of special interest to someone considering a career in the in the creative industries or in a media related field.
UCLan has strong links within the fashion promotion industry and during the three-year course a number of visiting professionals will be able to give students an informed insight into their chosen career path. Students are expected to increase their understanding of the subject through detailed individual research. This is a demanding but rewarding course and a strong commitment to fashion and brand recognition is both expected and encouraged.
Audio Visual Media addresses communication using lens-based media, and you will have the opportunity to study the subject from both sides of the lens.
The course provides experience of production in photography, video, animation, journalism, graphic layout, visual presentation, advertising, market research and reports, trend prediction, and multimedia computer work. It also offers an insight into the historical, social, and cultural origins of Audio Visual Media, and an exploration of their impact on society.
The teaching and learning methods used reflect this rich mix of subjects. We create a lively and stimulating learning environment in the studios through crits, tutorials, seminars and lectures. Emphasis is placed on a broad range of teaching and learning in a studio environment. You are expected to learn the fundamental skills and practical aspects of all types of media, together with their application. Assessment is continuous and project-based, although written assignments will also be required.
Career opportunities exist in magazine and newspaper journalism, advertising, multi media production, graphic layout, visual merchandising and many other related areas. There are also further education opportunities with combined post graduate degrees.
