Barking College

11-10-2007

Barking College is a friendly establishment with a fantastic atmosphere where many students like to stay on to study one of the many higher education courses. The College has over 20,000 students studying a wide variety of subjects ranging from art to autotechnology, management to music and website design to welding.

The Fashion Pathway National Diploma is the newest of many highly successful art and design courses in the Division of Cultural and Creative Industries.  The course focuses on fashion with Jo Price, who has a background in design studio work, textiles with Gail Glazier, who started life as a photographer until she developed a passion for textiles, but also has a strong emphasis on drawing with Hannah Poulson, who completed her MA at the Royal College of Art this year.

Since it started in 2005 the course has attracted a very high number of applicants and everyone was absolutely delighted at the successful progression of the first intake of students into university this summer.

We all work together to develop practical skills to a high standard and inspire the imagination, enthusiasm and creativity of the students through project work. The Fashion Enter scheme is a fantastic new and exciting enterprise which is already creating a lot of interest and curiosity in our students. The project fits perfectly into the course programme as it requires originality, experimentation, use of a variety of materials and techniques within a realistic team working environment with specific deadlines and a commercial outcome. It is such a tremendous opportunity for the students and will give them a head start in understanding the commercial realities of the fashion industry.
