Influences on design

11-02-2008

The human lifestyle has changed so much over the last 100 years, causing change and development of every aspect of our lives.

So much of this can influence design, some influential parts of life come from; art, role models, music, dance, history, nature, media –newspapers and magazines, environmental issues, technology ect.

One example of this would be the ‘eco demand’ in clothing. Since everyone has become more aware of the issue of global warming, more and more people want to help or do their part. This has led to an increase in organic designs (texture and colour) as well as materials.

Music and trends have influenced a long succession of new and innovated designs. Such as art deco where styles became more streamlined and modern. Or even the 1970’s to 1980’s, where punk and new romantics generated a new style for both men and women, of which some aspects have been innovated for today’s modern trends.

However success is only brought about when a design is practical for a particular need.
