Disassembly of textiles
11-02-2008
Disassembly is a concept that involves taking apart an existing product in order to study the components and production used. By doing this you can learn about the construction techniques and gain design feature knowledge.
By analysing other similar products, you can learn design and competition easier. Disassembly is expensive and can mean the destruction of the product.
A pro forma or template for the results is needed before the disassembling can begin. This makes it easier to analyse each stage and easier to compare the results. It will involve information on techniques, choices, production, value for money ect.
To disassemble a textile item it’s vital to consider the order of construction. Remove each section carefully so as to calculate the process of construction. There can also be a series of tests; this will then reveal the durability or fibre content.
Quality is vital not only for standards but also for a companies or individuals reputation.
