An Insight into Premiere Vision Trends Spring/Summer 2009

29-02-2008

{mosimage} I’ve
just got back from an exhausting but exhilarating trip to Premiere Vision in
Paris. My poor feet are still aching but my head is buzzing with ideas!

Here
is a little taster of what I picked up and my key fabric trends for Spring/Summer 09:

One
of the strongest messages for spring 09 is that it is a season of hope and of
fun…It’s about the now and the dressing for the moment.

Natural Cottons are back with a
vengeance, but his time washed, laundered and with lots of surface interest.
Think of piques, damasks, dobbies, jacquards and anti-shine. They look modern
and new especially in fresh menthols, cornflowers, corals and pinks. Don’t be
afraid to mix colours and think about merging different fabrics in the same
garment.

Raised washed stripes

Jacquard

Yarn Dyes Checks and stripes are
everywhere and work well on cottons and linens. This is a natural progression
from the checks and tartans that will be seen in abundance this autumn/winter
and already surfacing on the High Street now (In H&M already!)

Checks

Techno FabricsA massive trend. Fabrics
with a nylon and techno feel that look as if they have emerged from a
laboratory. The trend has started with the “patent” look in rainwear and trench
coats and works well for outerwear but for spring 09 we we’ll be seeing techno
fabrics incorporated into trousers, skirts and tops as well. Think Parachute
fabrics and of sportswear fabrics combined with fashion. (E.g. Stella McCartney
& Adidas.)

Techno chintz

Light and Airy Fabrics Think of fabrics that
are feathery in weight and are fluid over the body. Fluidity speaks, fabrics
are not body hugging and not clingy. There is volume in garments and an ease
and a looseness about fabrics which gives the wearer a felling of freedom of
movement.

Colour, Colour
and more Colour!

3
strong stories to work with:

Bold Loud ColoursA strong palette that
over exaggerates colours especially on prints. Bold colours, artificial,
surreal dyes. Think of synthetic boldness, grass green, acid limes, bubble gum
pink and sky blue.

Neutrals Essential to balance out
the bold colours that can look too brash, think of white, ecru and dove grey, they
give a calming effect to the loud colours and are a necessity!

Fresh Colours Not classified as either
brights or pastels, these are great colours for the natural cottons, so think
of menthol green, cornflower blue, gorgeous coral, soft yellow and lilac.

Spring
09 is about experimenting with your own style and individuality. You have
choices and therefore the platform to express yourself as you chose. It’s as
much about mixing different colours and fabrics together. It’s about a
playground of experimentation and choice – so enjoy it and follow your instincts
and your passions!
