Project Catwalk

23-05-2005

As the fashion journalist Colin McDowell once said: ‘only the very best ideas get copied,’ which may explain the sudden surge in fashion design competitions.

Combining the talent search of Fashion Fringe with the reality doco of Fashion House is a new series on Sky One entitled ‘Project Catwalk.’ In a similar vein to the recent ‘Make Me a Supermodel’ programme, 12 determined and passionate wannabe fashion designers will be put through their paces with a series of challenges and objectives. The idea being that their strength of character will be tested along with their creativity.

The final 3 designers will get the opportunity to show a womenswear collection during London Fashion Week next year, while one selected winner will also get further media exposure with a glossy magazine spread and a substantial cash prize to start up in business.

Like the sound of that? Well, there are certain requirements, such as a sound knowledge of the design process and competent sewing skills. From this Saturday Project Catwalk will be hosting a series of open auditions for interested applicants. Requirements to bear in mind are:

Open Audition Venues – Doors open from 9am to 4.30pm

Saturday 28th May       London            Crypt On The Green, St James, Clerkenwell Close, EC1R 0EA

Friday 3rd June           Glasgow          Thistle Hotel, 36 Cambridge St, G2 3HN

Saturday 4th June       Manchester      Thistle Hotel, 3-5 Portland St, M1 6DP

Sunday 5th June         Birmingham     Thistle Hotel, St. Chads Queensway, B4 6HY

To be accepted for audition you need to bring along the following:

(Please note: the application form is very thorough and lengthy with questions that need a detailed and imaginative response – so don’t leave this part to the last minute.)

At the audition you will also be expected to discuss your designs as well as participate in some practical exercises – so no blaggers!

Successful applicants will be called-back to London on Saturday 11th June for further tests on their design and sewing skills – from there the panel will select the final 12 for the show.

Good luck to those brave enough to enter.
