Jo Carey – Street Trends – A Floral Story
28-06-2005
Often directional during spring and summer months, floral prints are proving a particularly strong print story this year with an array of flora in full bloom on the streets. From delicate sprigs to stylised retro and African-inspired batik styles, floral prints have never looked this fresh.
Floral prints span style decades from feminine 50’s styles to psychedelic 60’s, symmetrical Art Nouveau and twee arts and crafts-style designs. Paisley combines with florals for a new take on classic English rose repeats and simple illustrative bunches look fresh in bi-tonal colour ways.
Florals needn’t be prim and girly as bold geometrics, and tropical Hawaiian–style designs are both suitably striking. Although a key print story for skirts, floral prints are also hot for lightweight structured coats, blouses and scarves. Choose from all over repeats, placement prints and graduated border designs.
