Jo Carey’s Street Trends – Shrink to fit

Shrink to fit
This summer super skinny-fit jeans and trousers remain a dominant style on the streets. Worn with ballet-style pumps and pointed-toe shoes, styles are extremely tapered at the ankles, sometimes covering the heel if excessively long, creating folds and creases of excess fabric.
Creating the same effect as leggings layered under skirts and dresses, extra tight-fit jeans can be worn combined with dresses or smock-length tops. Stretch-fit or standard twill denim is key in a number of finishes and washes, from dark indigo dyes to navy, black, grey and stone-washes. Side-seam ankle zips are a hot styling detail, allowing the wearer to adjust the fit around the ankle.
Cropped versions of skinny-fit jeans provide an alternative to extra-long leg lengths. Mid-shin proportions teamed with boots are key, while jeans tucked into baseball boots, or behind ankle-length boot tongues proves a directional styling option.
There currently seems to be no dwindling of enthusiasm for this very youthful trend. However, be prepared due to fashion’s fickle nature, for the opposite extreme in trouser silhouette to replace the current vogue for drainpipe-fits in the not too distant future.
