Ideal for transitional dressing, this look is about comfortable fits, fluid silhouettes and not looking like you’ve tried too hard.  The emphasis is on natural fabrics with knitwear providing a handcrafted feel, in soft handles such as mohair and angora and chunky knits such as rustic Arans and cables. Woven Fair-Isle patterns are hot for knitted tanks and pullovers, while crisp cottons such as broderie anglaise work for simple gathered skirts.

The most directional take on this trend is to combine contrasting urban pieces with a craft-inspired outfit.  Mix sportswear styling such as hoodies, sweat-tops or bomber jackets with flowing, tiered ankle-length skirts or cosy knitted gilets with skinny denim.  Slouchy knits worn over 40’s tea-dresses look contemporary teamed with pixie boots, and cosy knitted hats add extra vintage appeal.

Floral prints such as woven jacquards and delicate sprig repeats are ideal for handcrafted-inspired styling.  Accessorise with wooden beads and chunky bangles.  Expect to see patchwork emerge as a strong print directive over the coming months, and tweeds and tartans continuing the rustic theme as the season progresses.
