Producing an effortless just thrown together effect, mixing up style references, fabrics, prints and colours has been proving a key trend on the streets and subsequently the catwalks.  This trend can be a difficult one to carry off, but it does mark out a true fashion originator with a keen sense of individual style.  Beloved of Japanese fashion fanatics, renown for their often experimental and very expressive take on style, this trend calls for the wearer to rely on instinct rather than a rule-book.

For most directional effects, combine sportswear with vintage styling – hooded tops with full gathered skirts or chunky decorative, ethnic jewellery with sportswear and casual garments.  Mix subdued tones with brights, vintage accessories with T-shirts, beads with sweet-tops and sequins with jersey.  Unlikely style references such as feminine dresses worn with jeans are hot, alternatively traditional with modern fabric combinations such as tweeds with Lycra and satin with denim.

On the catwalks designers have been throwing influences together for dramatic effect.  Byblos accessorised highly feminine dresses and heels with train-driver-style caps while Ashish mixed casual slogan sweat-tops with full layered 50’s-style skirts.  Eley Kishimoto opted for clashing prints, Frost French, feminine with masculine garments, while Moschino Cheap and Chic mixed eras, fabrics and styling  – durable pieces such as cropped duffle-coats  with plush lady-like floral skirts.
