A Spring in your Step – Part 1

06-12-2005

So lets start at the very beginning, A for Accessories.

At Alessandro DellâAcqua, squashy electric blue tote bags were swung down the catwalk, and seriously cute leather belts decorated with a perfect set of lips were worn high on the waist.

The fashionista’s favourite Balenciaga provided us with chunky monochrome block-heeled sandals and barely-there make-up. This time, belts were worn low-slung on the waist with metal embellishments, and we saw the return of Victoriana with high ruffled neck-pieces.

Winter was certainly a thing of the past at Celine with the comeback of super sweet tutti frutti colours to make your mouth water. Think ‘Park Avenue Princess’ with high heels, slick and study handbags and nude-coloured neck scarves.

‘Pink to make the boys wink’ was the look at Dolce & Gabbana. Scarily-high hot-pink platform heels with ankle straps were combined with straw bags and floral accents. Cute head bands returned to the catwalk, as did vintage-inspired gold jewellery.

Spring was a breath of fresh air at Emilio Pucci with baby-faced make-up and simple ponytails. Electric blue and turquoise acted as the perfect colour scheme for oversized beach bags and chic clutch bags – all in the famous print – with jewelled kitten-heeled gladiator sandals to enhanced tanned feet.

Monochrome was another popular choice for Fendi, with a definite ‘Sex in the City’ look to the collection. White leather tote bags were seriously slick, chunky Perspex belts were a given primary focus, and sandals were flat – perfect for spring shopping.

Nobody does sex appeal quite like Gucci, and this collection was no exception. Purple platform heels teamed with dark sunglasses and strong pink lips provided high glamour for an otherwise ‘safe’ season. Over-the-top gold jewellery and shiny black handbags finished this high-maintenance look.

A Vogue favourite, Jill Sander, didn’t fail to impress with a fresh and carefree style. Footwear had a distinct nautical feel, with flat heels and canvas material, and hair was simplistic to match nude make-up. No strong colour schemes here, but cool crisp whites.

Many a must-have was created at Luella. Super-cool, roomy bags with dozens of dangling charms were definite attention-stealers, as were the hugely rounded sunglasses in pretty pink and yellow. There was also a touch of the old-school with primary colours, braces and cute badges for the teenager in us all.
