And the winners are….

12-10-2006

Many of the 15-17 year olds took their collections home with them last night refining their look and signature handwriting. For such relatively young and inexperienced would-be designers the work and commitment to the project was excellent. A true credit to both of the schools, Langely Park School for Boys and Langley Park School for Girls.

The day commenced with a presentations by each indivdiual participant; a pretty nerve racking experience to talk about fashion design infront of your peers. Each had researched their garment and could explain the target market, fabric, theme, style and mood of the garment complete with stockist/retailer (place to sell) and the targetted selling price.

A competition then commenced whereby each pupil had to rank their colleagues sketches which produced a winner from each group.  The winners were…

Belle

Emphasis

Edit

Rogue

Sense Something

ICI

– Belle, Farah Saleemi 4th lady along…

-Edit Emma Jackson, 3rd lady along…

– Emphasis – Dervin Takpak – forth chap along…

– Ici – Ben Godden, third chap along…

– Sense somthing

– Rogue – Edwin Evelyn-Rahr, first chap.

However the competition only allowed for three winning designs. This therefore meant that the six winners above had to then hold another presentation whereby they had to influence the group to vote for them. Each of the six winners added more information on their garments, stressed why the group shoudl vote for them and did strong persuasive presentations.l

And the eventual winners were:

– Edwin Evelyn-Rahr from Rogue

– Emma Richards from Belle

– Tied in equal third place Ben Okumu from Sense Something and Ben Godden. We had to be strict, only three designs could go through so both Ben’s had to have a further presentation for the group to vote upon. The eventual winner was Ben Okumu with his androgenous pistripe brown suit However, it really was a close call and Ben Godden received the highly recommended award.

Mel Everitt then made a presentation regarding the next process of design, patterns and specifications and then the New Shopper local newspaper came in to take some pictures for next weeks paper! All good news for all concerned.

So many many congratulations to the participants, to Miss Miles for organising the event and Mr Northcott, the Head, for agreeing to the new style enterprising fashion workshop. It’s genuinely been rewarding for all conerned.
