Every Sunday in the early evening slot there’s one hour of pure style advice, so make sure you save your front row seat to the world of fashion. With its re-launch on the 22nd of October and approximately 96 % more fashion-loving viewers than normal, the show made an amazing comeback.

Refreshed and updated, with two new presenters on board, “The Clothes Show†is still dedicated to its original content. Brendan Courtney, always dressed in a killer smoking jacket and footballer’s wife Louise Redknapp take over the microphones while Caryn Franklin, who was also presenting the show from the late 80s until the mid 90s, gives style advice from her expert fashion knowledge.
From high street to high end, the show covers all fashion, beauty and make-up topics. Reporting from top international runway shows, the after show parties as well as presenting the new key trends, “The Clothes Show†covers every major fashion topic. With different categories such as Stop and Search, Stop and Chop, Body Matters or the weekly high street Catwalk Challenge, there’ll be nothing left to be desired.
{mosimage} Caryn Franklin hosts a private catwalk show, the weekly Catwalk Challenge, where fellow fashion editors, e.g. Louise Roe, judge a variety of high street shops, saving you time and money when it comes to the hottest trends and best buys of the season. They will find out which high street buy is (a) fashionable and (b) not breaking the bank. “We translate this season’s key themes from the catwalk to the high street, explaining the look, the crucial styling touches and pinpoint the best buysâ€, explains Caryn Franklin. This is a great way to find out how to work the catwalk look. Last Sunday, the challenge was to find a stylish coat, next time it’s all about boyfriend chic.
She also presents Body Matters, a style advice feature, where one woman will find help on how to dress according to her body shape. This makeover is part of the old edition of the programme and so popular that it makes a welcome return. All in all, she is the stern critique.
Brendan makes sure the fashion circuit doesn’t take itself too seriously and adds some funny light-hearted insights. In Stop and Search, he catches by-passers on the street in cities throughout the UK and takes a closer look at their outfits and spies into their bags, looking for fashion essentials. Stop and Chop certainly is a new experience: there is the chance to get a completely new haircut by a professional celebrity hairdresser for free.
Celebrities also expose their wardrobes for the charming Irishman. Last Sunday, it was the Royal family’s friend Tara Palmer-Tomkinson who showed us her provocative short tartan skirt (“I’ll never come back alone when I wear this!â€) and a £10,000- dress. Indeed, the programme is quite diverse.
Louise Redknapp, former band member of Eternal, also spots stylishly dressed people and discovers what makes them tick. She is known for her styling skills and comments on the new series: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Clothes Show – it was always must-see TV for me. It’s great to be involved with the restyling of the series for a new generation of viewers hungry for great fashion on TV, as well as for those, who like me, remember the original show.â€
With a report on eco-fashion (“Why green is the new blackâ€) the programme proves that not only is it stylish, but very well thought through – it’s fashion with a conscience.
The first show provided an appetizer and some categories have yet to commence; like The House of Yummy Mummies. The Clothes Show will have at least ten episodes after which it will be decided if the programme will continue. Although some might be sad that the show is not aired on the BBC, the success of this show is – in my opinion – unstoppable.
Originally presented by Breakfast Time’s Selina Scott and top designer Jeff Banks, “The Clothes Show†was first aired on 13 October 1986 and was very popular during the 80s and 90s. The brand “Clothes Show†expanded to a monthly magazine which accompanied the programme and an exhibition was annually organised since 1989. “Clothes Show Live†is still the world’s largest fashion and beauty event and takes place at NEC, Birmingham from 1-6 December. Tickets are now available on www.clothesshowlive.com.
With an accessible approach to fashion, all women will be able to profit from this inspiring weekly fashion fix. You can watch “The Clothes Show†exclusively on UKTV Style every Sunday between 6pm and 7pm. More information about the show and its presenters is available on www.uktvstyle.com.
