Fashion or Fad…The Return of the Slogan Tee

09-11-2006

Slogans on T-Shirts are generally thought of as rather uncool by London’s most fashionable beings. After all who wants to go round advertising yet another high street brand / designer label across their chest – and shelling out for the privilege? Hello, shouldn’t they be paying us!

After an in-joke amongst designers at September’s London Fashion Week slogan tees are, it seems, having a triumphant return. We’re not talking your usual slogans however, these pay homage to some of Henry Holland’s favourite designers with added wit aplenty. Who’s Henry Holland? He’s a stylist, writer and the man behind the House of Holland label. After a spate of celebrity tees such as “Buy This Coleen”, “Love Me Some Lohan” and the like, Holland decided to have some fun with slogans aimed at all you fashion groupies out there.

Slogans on offer from the House of Holland include:

“Suck My Look, Basso & Brooke”

“Do Me Daily, Christopher Bailey”

“Get Yer Freak On, Giles Deacon”

“Cause Me Pain, Heidi Slimane”

And more…

Holland, managed to persuade the likes of Giles Deacon and Gareth Pugh to wear one his tees for their end of show bows at September’s LFW. The next thing you know – humorous messages and slogans on tees are all the rage again.
