Victorian Punk @ TescoDisco – Wednesday 15th November
Featuring…
Fidelio Vaz Homme – Menswear Collection
{mosimage}The return of dandy-ism was a cult trend last year, with various style commentators adopting frock coats and smoking jackets to go with similarly Victorian pretensions. The backlash has now begun, with Spring/Summer 2007 Men’s catwalks awash with looser, more relaxed tailoring and techno textiles. And Fidelio Vaz’s collection for S/S 2007 offers an even more telling critique of this trend: his ‘New Victorians’. In homage to the TescoDisco theme; Vaz, who counts both Jermyn Street and Martin Margiela in his previous design repertoire, has collaborated with TescoDisco stylists Tet Yap and Lady Himalaya to create a live montage of Victorian punk wear; complete with models from the Pineal Eye Model Agency. These breathing mannequins will form part of a live installation in the Gallery area of TescoDisco – and will exemplify the paradox of suppression and freedom as embodied by the term Victorian Punk.
