According to recent research by security firm G4S almost one in ten Britain’s have stolen from shops in the past year. A total of 3.7million people aged between 16 – 65 committed the crime in 2006; over £1.7billion worth of goods was stolen by 85,000 culprits. The black market is also booming with more than 1 in 4 people confirming that they would but “hooky gear†if the price was competitive.
Londoner’s are the most likely to steal expensive items followed by thieves in the North West. Scottish people are the least likely to steal. However G4S conducted research on only 1,010 people so some scepticism is justified.
