Now On: Kylie – The Exhibition

06-02-2007

{mosimage}

Spanning 20 years the exhibition chronicles the costumes and outfits worn by Kylie from her role as Charlene on Neighbours to glamorous pop diva. From her infamous ‘Spinning Around’ gold lamé hotpants to her glitzy showgirl tour corsets, designers on show include John Galliano, Dolce & Gabbana and Fee Doran (Mrs Jones) amongst others. Along with a fantastic display of fashion the exhibition also includes Kylie’s pop videos, photographs and editorial spreads.

 Clearly hitting all the right notes with the public Kylie – The Exhibition has sold over 4,000 tickets pre-opening day. Great for the V&A, but of course not everyone is happy. Diehard museum enthusiasts feel that the V&A is dumbing down to attract a broader celebrity obsessed audience. The museum, however, maintains that this costume based exhibition reveals how a modern day pop star successfully recreates their image alongside their music.

 Kylie – The Exhibition is currently on tour from The Art’s Centre, Melbourne Australia, where Kylie donated many of the costumes and memorabilia in 2003.

 The exhibition is on at the V&A until 10th June 2007 and will go onto Manchester Art Gallery and then Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow later in the year.
